As many know, Illinois has never kept state bowfishing records. Several clubs including the BAI and the national club, the BAA have kept records in the past but there has been no records kept for all in Illinois.......until now!
The Bowfishing Assoc of Illinois didnt see any reason why record fish taken by bowfishermen and women should not be honored as hook & line fish were, so we contacted and have had have had several conversations or emails with the new IDNR Director as well as heads of several fisheries divisions about Illinois keeping and recognizing record fish taken with bow and arrow or archery device. We are extremely happy to announce that starting Jan 1st there will be an official bowfishing record program for Illinois similar to the one kept for hook/line fish.
Many details to come but the records will be displayed in paper and electronic media state publications. Much more to come on this in the next week, but we feel this is a great thing for bowfishing in Illinois!

Nice job! Were there any issues you had to work out with them to get it through? I would like to see WV start recording Bowfishing records.
